Correspondent: Police superintendent Babul Akter has been relieved of his duty in reply to an application for his resignation.The Home Ministry has issued a circular to this end on Tuesday. Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry Dr Mozammel Haque Khan confirmed the matter to reporters.
Mozammel Haque Khan said, “On 24 June, SP Babul sent an application to the senior secretary of home affairs ministry seeking retrieval of his duty. The ministry has received his resignation letter after verifying it.”
It is learnt that on August 9, SP Babul sent an application to the senior secretary of home affairs ministry to cancel his signed resignation letter where he claimed that on 28 June, he was forced to sign the resignation letter.
On 24 June, Babul Akter was picked up from his in-laws’ residence to the DB office for interrogation.
Several police officials, seeking anonymity, told that Babul was interrogated by three DIGs of the police for 15 hours.
Police officials during the interrogation told Babul that they have all the information about his involvement in the murder. Babul had two options – either he had to go to jail or he had to resign from service.
On June 5, three assailants stabbed and shot dead Mahmuda Khanam Mitu, wife of Babul Akter, when she was taking her son to his school bus stop at GEC intersection in Chittagong.
